Narasimha parvata trek
Agumbe, Karnataka
ABOUT THE PLACE

Narasimha parvata trek is very beautiful, and equally difficult trek. We started from mallandur and descended to kigga. The ascend was nearly 11-12kms while the descend was 7-8kms approximately. The trail is amongst the dense forest. Sometimes very steep.

Difficult • Need a guide

It is recommended to trek with a guide only. And the trek is not for beginners. Please do not try without prior experience, because you will have to walk around 20kms in a day, and reach kigga before dark. You will have 8-9hrs of time only.

Allowed season:

Reaching their : We reached mallandur from bangalore at 7AM. There are direct busses available. You can choose to go by car and park your vehicle at the guide's place.

BRIEF DETAILS ABOUT THE TREK

The climbing takes the most time similar to any trek. The descending time is about 3-3.5hrs depending on your pace. This place has lots and lots of leeches that you just can't escape. You have to cover your body as much as possible. We tried keeping tobacco leaves in our shoes, these repel leeches. It works!!
The best thing that always works is, put your ankle length socks on you pant(tuck your pant inside the socks) and walk.

The trek starts moderate and then gets difficult. At some point the trek gets steeper and you will need a support stick. Take it from any broken branches. Please take from broken branches only. Carry luggages as less as possible.
Start your trek with these essentials and start the walk with your own pace. Do not hurry. The trek is steep and dense until Barkhana falls, here you can refill water. The place is beautiful. We reached by noon.

After an hour after this falls which is about 8km from the starting point , we had lunch. The dense and steep forest starts to reduce. The walk is now through grasslands. As beautiful as you can imagine. This trial is so cinematic that you will want to take pictures every 100mtrs. The colors are bright, the place is calm, your eyes just can't have enough.

After a 3-4km walk, we reach the peak. To witness an amazing view of all the mountains around you with no urbanization. There are easy chances to fall asleep. But don't, you need to descend. Sometimes in the climb, the guide might force you to walk faster, but walk at your pace.
But, don’t be too slow. Because you have 9hrs time only. Plan accordingly. The guides will usually leave you behind, walk for a 500mtrs ahead and then wait, do not encourage that. Ask him to stay 'with you'. If not, why are you paying? .

There are poisonous plants and also plants with thorns. Be very careful. Do not cut a stem unless the guide does, for making path. And do not stay near the guide when he cuts a plant, because these can spray out poison that is not good for your skin. I got it on my hand, i had burning sensation for a week, i could not sleep after the trek day because of the pain, and the total effect fades in not less than 2 months. Descend slowly in your pace, do not run to save time, you cannot risk falling off the cliff. The descend is not that difficult, but be noted that at any point of the trek, you can get lost. So, stay together and follow the guide. He knows better.

After descending to kigga, visit the kigga temple(you reach the temple immediately after the desend) and can leave to sringeri . There are buses and autos that can drop you to agumbe or sringeri. Sringeri is the nearest place, 13km. But, if you have to go back to guide's home, then it is 36km approx. The autos charge unimaginable amount, so negotiate before you board.
After the trek

One can visit the sringeri temple, agumbe view point etc. There are a lot of places if you want to visit.
